Degenerative Disc Symptoms Can Often be Treated at Laser Spine Institute

Degenerative Disc Symptoms Can Often be Treated at Laser Spine Institute

Degenerative disc symptoms generally result from nerve compression and irritation caused by intervertebral disc disintegration. As discs lose their structural integrity, they become more vulnerable to herniation and bulging. When these events occur, the soft, gel-like center of the disc presses on the exterior wall of the disc or breaks through into the spinal canal. The intrusion can press on the spinal cord or attached nerve roots, triggering pain.

These degenerative disc symptoms include:

  • Swelling
  • Reduced range of motion
  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Weakness
  • More

Depending on where the nerve compression occurs, these symptoms could also radiate to the arms or legs. Fortunately, most degenerative disc sufferers can find relief with simple, non-invasive methods, such as stretching, physical therapy, over-the-counter medicines, and chiropractic care. Only a small percentage of patients need more intensive treatment such as prescription drugs, spinal steroid injections, and surgery. If you’ve already tried non-invasive methods and are discussing surgery with your doctor, you may want to consider endoscopic treatment at Laser Spine Institute (LSI).  Our surgeons use only a small incision to access the degenerative disc site and precise tools to remove the portion of your disc or discs that are pressing on nerve roots. The procedure is gentle enough to be performed on an outpatient basis, using only local anesthesia and deep IV sedation.

Contact LSI today to learn more about our treatments for degenerative disc symptoms. We can determine if our procedures are right for you with a free review of your MRI or CT scan.
